Dropshipping Automation Cost per Order: What You Pay at 30, 300 and 1,000 Orders a Month

October 26, 2026 UTC

Dropshipping automation cost per order at 30, 300 and 1,000 AliExpress orders a month, with processing included, and how to tell if it pays off.

There is a spreadsheet somewhere with one row per sale. Store order number, AliExpress order number, what you paid, tracking number, and a last column that is supposed to say "sent". At 30 orders a month it is a chore. At 300 it is the system the business runs on, and three of the tracking cells are blank because nobody remembers whether those parcels haven't shipped or the numbers never got pasted back.

That sheet is usually what sends a seller to look up dropshipping automation cost per order. The answers tend to stop one step short. They say automation pays off past some volume, or they compare monthly tiers, and leave the division to you. The processing on the supplier payment rarely makes it into the math, and neither does a second store, which changes the answer.

So this article does the division. It prices automation per order at three volumes and holds the result against what one order actually keeps. The method works for any tool. The prices are DS-Mate's, in US dollars as of October 2026, because those are the ones I can show you with every line visible.

The short answer

On DS-Mate's October 2026 prices, dropshipping automation costs about 17 cents an order at 300 orders a month and about 19 cents an order at 1,000, both on the Growth plan. One store at up to 30 orders a month fits the Free plan at $0 if you are fine clicking Pay with card on each order, but a second store, or more than 30 orders a month, means at least Starter at $19.90 a month, which is also where automatic placing and paying from service credits starts. Paying the AliExpress supplier adds processing on every plan: a markup of about 3.1% on what the supplier charges, plus 30 cents per card charge or per credit top-up. Whether it is worth paying for depends on what one order keeps after the channel fee and the supplier's item and shipping cost.

What are you paying a tool to take off your hands?

Name the job before you price it. Here is one AliExpress order, done by hand:

  1. Open the new order in your Shopify or WooCommerce admin.
  2. Find the AliExpress listing you sell it from.
  3. Pick the variant the buyer chose: colour, size, plug type.
  4. Copy the buyer's name, address and phone number into AliExpress checkout.
  5. Pay.
  6. Days later, come back, find that AliExpress order, copy the tracking number into the store order and mark it fulfilled.
  7. Update the spreadsheet so you know steps 1 to 6 happened.

None of these steps is hard. Each one is a place to slip: the wrong variant, a postcode typo, a tracking number pasted into the wrong order, a row nobody updated. Step 7 exists only because steps 1 to 6 happen in two systems that do not talk to each other, so you end up carrying the data between them by hand.

If you want to stop manually ordering from AliExpress for every sale, that list is what you are pricing. When you compare tools, ask which of the seven steps each one removes and which it leaves with you. A tool that places the order but leaves the payment to you, or pays but leaves the tracking to you, gives you a shorter list, not an empty one.

How DS-Mate handles this: what happens to an order once it is automated

In DS-Mate, automatic ordering is for AliExpress orders on the Starter and Growth plans. You do one piece of setup per product, and after that DS-Mate does the per-order steps itself, except when the order waits for you. Here is what AliExpress auto order fulfillment looks like, step by step.

Once per product: link the variant

You link each store variant to its AliExpress variant once. Anything not linked shows on the Unmapped page, and an order with an unlinked item is held instead of placed. While linking you can set a Max Supplier Price, an optional per-unit ceiling for the whole variant. Set it to 0 and there is no limit.

On every order: wait, place, pay, track

Each store has an Auto-pay with credits switch on its card in Settings > Stores, on by default on Starter and Growth. With it on, a paid order goes like this:

  • DS-Mate checks that every item is linked and that the order has a shipping address.
  • The order waits out the Protection Window so the buyer can still cancel before any supplier money moves. It is 6 hours by default, and each store can set its own length, from 10 minutes to 48 hours.
  • DS-Mate places the order with the AliExpress supplier and pays for it from your service credits. You add credits in Settings > Service Credit, where Auto-Reload Settings can top the balance up for you.
  • When the supplier ships, DS-Mate sends the tracking number to the Shopify, WooCommerce or eBay order once a carrier in the buyer's country has the parcel. Until then the order shows In transit.

eBay has its own policy on dropshipping and product sourcing, so read eBay's dropshipping policy page before you send eBay orders to any supplier.

If the AliExpress variant is out of stock or not offered for the buyer's country, and you added a backup supplier, DS-Mate uses the backup for that one order.

An automated DS-Mate order on Starter or Growth: paid store order, checks, Protection Window, placed with the AliExpress supplier and paid from service credits, In transit, then tracking sent to the store order. Before it is placed, the order waits for you with nothing charged if credits are short, the cost is over the Max Supplier Price, or the order would lose money.
What happens to an automated order, and the three cases where it waits for you before anything is charged.

When the order waits for you instead

  • Credits are short. The order stays at Ready to Fulfill, showing Not enough service credits and a Top up credits button. The store owner gets a bell entry and an email.
  • The supplier cost is over your Max Supplier Price. Payment is blocked until you raise the max or fix the link. The backup supplier is not tried for price.
  • The supplier would charge more than the buyer paid. The order shows Fulfillment Blocked, with Paused: this order would lose money on its page, and nothing is charged. Pay it yourself with Pay anyway, or change the product's supplier link or price.

Auto-pay also does not run on a store that uses your own AliExpress account. You place those orders with Place on AliExpress and pay for them on AliExpress.

Now go back to the seven steps. Once the variant is linked, steps 1 to 6 are DS-Mate's job on each order unless it waits for you. Step 7 shrinks too. Each store's orders list shows every order's status and a Profit column, on every plan, and each order's page lists what the supplier charged, line by line. Those are the status and cost columns the spreadsheet was keeping by hand, store by store. For the wider setup, from import to tracking, see how Shopify AliExpress automation works.

What does dropshipping automation cost at 30, 300 and 1,000 orders a month?

Most tools price automation by a monthly tier with an order allowance. DS-Mate does too, with a per-order rate once the allowance is used. At October 2026 prices:

PlanPrice a monthStore slotsOrders included a monthEach order past the allowance
Free$0130None: upgrade past 30
Starter$19.90210030 cents
Growth$39.90525020 cents

Those per-order rates apply when DS-Mate buys from AliExpress for you. On your own AliExpress account they are 40 cents on Starter and 30 cents on Growth, and those orders are not auto-paid. You can also pay yearly: $190 a year for Starter and $380 for Growth, about 20% less than twelve monthly payments. The math below uses the monthly prices.

Spread over three volumes, the plan cost per order looks like this:

Orders a monthCheapest planPlan cost for the monthPlan cost per orderThe other paid plan
30Free$0$0Starter: $19.90, about 66 cents an order
300Growth$39.90 + 50 x $0.20 = $49.90About 17 centsStarter: $19.90 + 200 x $0.30 = $79.90, about 27 cents
1,000Growth$39.90 + 750 x $0.20 = $189.90About 19 centsStarter: $19.90 + 900 x $0.30 = $289.90, about 29 cents

At 30 orders, Free means one store and a Pay with card click on every order. Automatic placing and paying starts on Starter.

Line chart of DS-Mate plan cost per order from 100 to 1,000 orders a month: Starter rises from about 20 cents toward 30 cents, Growth falls to about 16 cents at 250 orders and then rises toward 20 cents, and Growth costs less from 167 orders.
DS-Mate plan cost per order, October 2026 prices in USD, before processing.

Why does the cost per order dip, then creep back toward 20 cents?

A monthly fee spreads thinner as orders grow, until the allowance runs out. On Growth that happens at 250 orders, where $39.90 works out to about 16 cents an order, the lowest it gets. Every order past 250 costs 20 cents, more than that 16-cent average, so each one pulls the average up a little: about 17 cents at 300, about 19 at 1,000. It gets closer to 20 cents and never reaches it. Starter has the same shape, with its low point at 100 orders (about 20 cents) and 30 cents as the line it creeps toward.

The same holds for any tool priced this way whose rate past the allowance is higher than its monthly price divided by the allowance. With such a tool, your real cost per order at volume is close to the rate past the allowance, and the monthly price divided by the allowance is only the best case.

At what volume does Growth cost less than Starter?

From 167 orders a month. Starter costs $19.90 plus 30 cents for every order past 100, and Growth costs $20 more up front. Those 30-cent orders close the $20 gap after about 67 orders past the allowance, so at 167 orders Starter comes to $40.00 against Growth's $39.90. Growth also gives you five store slots instead of two. For two tiers priced this way, the crossing point is the cheaper plan's allowance plus the price gap divided by the cheaper plan's per-order rate, as long as that point comes before the pricier plan's allowance runs out. Here 167 is well under Growth's 250, so the shortcut holds.

What does processing on the supplier payment add?

The plan pays for the automation. The AliExpress order itself still has to be paid for, and that payment carries processing on every plan, outside the plan price:

  • A processing markup on every order, by card or by credits. It is sized so that 3% of the amount collected covers the card processor's cut, which comes to about 3.1% on top of what the supplier charges.
  • 30 cents flat per card charge or per credit top-up. On Free, every order is its own card payment, so that is 30 cents an order. On Starter and Growth with credits, it is 30 cents per top-up, however many orders that top-up then pays for. The top-up does not charge the percentage; that is taken once, when credit is spent on an order.

These figures are for US dollars. If you top up four times a month, the flat part is $1.20 for the month, at 300 orders or at 1,000. The markup grows with what you buy and is the same on every plan, so it never changes the Starter-or-Growth answer.

Before you compare any automation tool, write down five numbers from its pricing page: monthly price, orders included, the rate past them, store slots, and the processing on the supplier payment. If one is missing, ask before you sign up. DS-Mate's pricing page lists what each plan includes, and this guide to dropshipping automation software covers what these tools do beyond price.

How do you read what one order actually kept?

A plan share of 17 cents an order sounds cheap or dear depending on one number: what the order kept. Here is an example order on Northwind Outdoor, a fictional demo store, read line by line the way DS-Mate's order page lays it out.

Line on the order pageAmount
Shopify Sale: Item Price$42.00
Marketplace Fee-$1.52
Order Earnings$40.48
Supplier Cost: Item cost$14.80
Supplier Cost: Shipping$4.60
Supplier Cost: Total$19.40
Profit ($40.48 minus $19.40)$21.08

Example order on a demo store, before payment processing.

Two things hide when you work from the store's sale total and an AliExpress receipt. The channel takes its fee before it pays you, and the supplier bills the item and the shipping as two lines, so a $14.80 product is a $19.40 purchase. Shopify reports this fee only for Shopify Payments, so not every Shopify order has a fee row.

Profit in DS-Mate appears once the supplier order is placed and stays provisional until the channel's fees settle. It can be negative. It never takes off the monthly plan price. This example's Supplier Cost shows only Item cost and Shipping, which is why its $21.08 is before payment processing. On a real paid order, the Supplier Cost Total also includes Taxes & fees, Payment processing fees and DS-Mate processing fees, so Profit there is already after processing.

Now your own math on top of that. This part is my arithmetic; DS-Mate does not show it:

  • Growth at 300 orders a month, paid from credits: $21.08, minus the processing markup (about 3.1% of the $19.40 supplier cost), minus the plan's share of about 17 cents (for this example only; real orders are covered below).
  • Free, paid by card: $21.08, minus the same markup, minus the 30-cent card fee. The plan's share is $0.

On Growth, the plan's share is the smallest number in that sum, and the $21.08 is more than 100 times bigger. So run this sum on your thinnest-margin product; your best seller will flatter any plan. When an order keeps $20, a 17-cent share barely moves it. When an order keeps $2, the same 17 cents is close to a tenth of it, and the choice of plan starts to matter.

Those two sums are for this example, whose Supplier Cost has no processing lines. On your own paid orders, Profit already has the processing in it, and once you pass your monthly allowance it has the per-order rate too, as DS-Mate processing fees. So the only plan cost left to take off a real order is the monthly price spread over the month: on Growth at 300 orders, $39.90 over 300 is about 13 cents. On credits, the 30-cent top-up fees sit outside Profit as well, a fraction of a cent an order at four top-ups a month.

Is dropshipping automation worth it at 30 orders a month?

Often you don't need to pay for it. Free is enough when these hold:

  • You run one store.
  • You stay at or under 30 orders a month. Past 30, Free asks you to upgrade.
  • You are fine clicking Pay with card on each order. DS-Mate then places it with the linked AliExpress supplier.

The processing markup is the same on both plans, so at 30 orders the comparison comes down to the flat part. On Free, 30 card payments at 30 cents each come to $9 a month. On Starter it is $19.90 plus 30 cents per top-up, about $20.20 with one top-up. Free comes out about $11 cheaper, and at one store and 30 orders, the main thing Starter adds for that money is that you stop clicking Pay.

Free stops being enough when either of these happens:

  • You add a second store, say Shopify plus WooCommerce. Free has one store slot, Starter two and Growth five.
  • You pass 30 orders a month.

The store count is the easy one to miss. Sell on Shopify and WooCommerce and Free is not enough even at 10 orders a month, because the second store needs a second slot. A wide catalogue can also outgrow Free first: it links up to 200 variants, against 2,000 on Starter.

FAQ

How much does it cost to automate AliExpress orders?

On DS-Mate at October 2026 prices, automatic placing and paying of AliExpress orders starts on Starter at $19.90 a month, with 100 orders included and 30 cents for each order after that. Growth is $39.90 with 250 included and 20 cents after, which works out to about 17 cents an order at 300 orders a month and about 19 cents at 1,000. Paying the supplier adds a processing markup of about 3.1% on what the supplier charges, plus 30 cents per card charge or per credit top-up.

Is there a fee per order for AliExpress auto ordering?

Inside the monthly allowance the plan price covers it: 100 orders on Starter and 250 on Growth. Past the allowance, each order costs 30 cents on Starter or 20 cents on Growth, taken from your service credits or added to the card payment for that order. Separately, every supplier payment carries the processing markup, and every card charge or credit top-up carries 30 cents.

Can I automate AliExpress orders on Shopify and WooCommerce at the same time?

Yes, on a plan with at least two store slots: Starter has two and Growth has five, while Free has one. You link each store's variants to their AliExpress variants, and each store has its own Auto-pay with credits switch in Settings > Stores. Your credit balance is shared across all your stores, and tracking goes back to each store's own order once a carrier in the buyer's country has the parcel.

Why doesn't DS-Mate place the AliExpress order as soon as the sale comes in?

The order first waits out the Protection Window, so the buyer can still cancel on the sales channel before any supplier money moves. The window is 6 hours by default, and each store can set its own length, from 10 minutes to 48 hours, in Settings > Stores. A buyer cancellation that arrives during the window takes the order out of fulfillment, so AliExpress is never paid for it.

Does the Profit figure in DS-Mate include the plan fee?

No. Profit on an order is what the channel pays out minus the supplier cost DS-Mate billed, and the monthly plan price never comes off it. To see your full cost per order, spread the monthly price over the month's orders and take that share off yourself.

Before you pick a plan

Work out automation per order at your own volume, with the processing on the supplier payment included. Then hold that number against what your thinnest order keeps. That comparison tells you whether automation is worth paying for, and which tier, far better than the monthly price on its own.
